How to build a CV recruiters can scan quickly

A clear UK CV helps recruiters understand your fit without hunting for the important evidence.

Lead with relevance

Start with your name, contact details and a short profile tailored to the type of role you want. Avoid a generic personal statement. Two or three specific sentences about your experience, strengths and target role are more useful.

Put your most recent experience first. For each role, explain what you were responsible for and what changed because of your work. Results, scale and context make claims credible.

  • Use familiar section headings
  • Keep dates and job titles consistent
  • Replace long duty lists with evidence
  • Check spelling, spacing and contact details

Make every line earn its place

Remove information that does not help an employer assess you. A focused two-page CV is often easier to review than a longer document, although technical, academic or senior careers may justify more detail.

Save the document with a professional filename and use a readable format. Before sending it, compare the CV with the vacancy and bring the strongest matching experience nearer the top.
