Collect evidence from real roles
Review a group of recent vacancies for the same type of work and record recurring technical skills, behaviours, qualifications and tools. Separate essential requirements from desirable ones.
Notice the context in which a skill is used. ‘Communication’ may mean presenting to senior leaders in one role and supporting vulnerable customers in another.
Build proof, not a keyword list
Prioritise gaps that appear often and matter to your target work. Choose a realistic way to practise the skill and produce evidence: a project, course assessment, volunteering example or responsibility in your current role.
Update your CV only when you can support the claim. Relevant language helps your application, but credible examples are what carry the interview.
