How to work effectively with recruitment agencies
Give recruiters a clear brief, protect your information and maintain a useful professional relationship.

Be clear about your search
Tell the recruiter your target roles, relevant experience, location, working pattern, salary expectations and availability. Explain any non-negotiable conditions so neither side wastes time.
Provide an up-to-date CV and respond promptly, but do not permit submission to an employer until you know the organisation and role. Keep your own record to prevent duplicate applications.
Judge the quality of the service
A good recruiter can explain the vacancy, employer, process and basis for your fit. Be cautious if you are pressured to share excessive personal data or accept a role you have not discussed.
Recruiters work for the hiring organisation, so continue your own search. Stay professional, give honest feedback and maintain contact with specialists who understand your field.
